We take the starting point that CSOs navigate the possibilities of their roles, constructing these roles from their own perspectives and capacities while engaging with opportunities and constraints. This has diverse implications for these actors’ roles and their contributions to inclusive and sustainable development.
Our project is situated in India. We approach India as a Southern context with the potential to offer insight into the ways in which contextualized understandings of CSOs as agents can help to develop perspectives on how civil society’s roles take shape and on how donors, Northern CSOs, and other Southern CSOs can potentially contribute to these roles.
We are the Civil Society Research Collective (CSRC), a group of academic researchers from the USA, India and the Netherlands.
